The Why App Privacy Policy

The Why App ("the app," "we," "us," or "our") is a voice assistant application designed for families, developed by Grow Your Brand. The app allows children to ask questions and learn through AI-powered conversation, with setup and supervision by a parent or guardian. This Privacy Policy explains how the app handles your information.

1. Data We Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to our servers. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is saved locally on your device only and never leaves it:

This data is stored using your device's local storage. It is not backed up to any server, synced across devices, or accessible to us in any way. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all stored data.

3. Voice and Conversation Data

When your child speaks to the assistant, the app uses your device's built-in speech recognition to convert speech to text. The text of each conversation is sent directly to Google's Gemini API using your personal API key to generate a response.

Google's handling of API data is governed by Google's Gemini API Terms of Service.

4. Third-Party Services

The only third-party service the app communicates with is Google's Gemini API, and only through your own API key. We do not use any analytics services, crash reporting tools, advertising networks, or social media SDKs. The app does not use cookies, remarketing pixels, or third-party tracking of any kind.

5. Children's Privacy

The app is designed to be set up and supervised by a parent or guardian. The app does not collect any personal information from children. No account creation, name entry, or identifying information is required from the child to use the app. The age setting, used to tailor the assistant's responses to be age-appropriate, is stored only on the device.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your API key and settings are stored in your device's secure local storage. Since no data is transmitted to us, there is no server-side data to protect or breach. Conversation data travels directly between your device and Google's API over an encrypted HTTPS connection.

7. Data Retention

We do not retain any data because we do not collect any data. All app data exists solely on your device and is permanently deleted when you uninstall the app or clear the app's storage in your device settings.

8. Your Rights

Under PIPEDA and applicable Canadian law, you have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal information. Since we do not collect any data, there is nothing to request, export, or delete from our end. You have full control over all data stored on your device at all times.

9. CASL Compliance

We comply with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation. The app does not send any commercial electronic messages. We will only contact you if you reach out to us directly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through an app update. We will never begin collecting personal data without updating this policy first and obtaining consent where required. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
